ASSOCIATE Archaeologist

Location: Lompoc, Hemet

Applied EarthWorks, Inc. (Æ) has immediate openings for full-time Associate Archaeologists in our Lompoc and Hemet offices.

Pay Range:

Associate $29 - $38/hour

DUTIES:

The Associate Archaeologist will participate in cultural resource projects under the direction of senior staff and will manage small projects and supervise assigned staff. Job duties may include participating in survey, evaluation, data recovery, and monitoring projects in support of CRM regulatory compliance; recruiting project-based staff; analyzing artifacts and preparing cultural resource sections of environmental documents; assisting with preparation and implementation of research designs and treatment plans; writing technical reports; consulting with Native Americans; preparing proposals; and assisting with business development.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to design and supervise complex archaeological fieldwork, lab processing, and/or or technical analysis and report preparation;

  • Ability to collect and manage field data using an iPad, Trimble Geo X7, or other GPS devices;

  • Ability to use Survey 1-2-3 and ArcCollector;

  • Ability to work cooperatively with clients, agency representatives, construction contractors, tribal monitors, and other project stakeholders;

  • Strong understanding of CRM laws and regulations;

  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to manage multiple projects and function as integral team leader and member;

  • Strong technical writing skills; and

  • Regional expertise in Æ service area.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Advanced degree in anthropology, archaeology, historical archaeology, or related field desired.

  • Minimum of 3 years progressively responsible employment in CRM; additional experience maybe substituted for advanced degree.

  • Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA) certification preferred.

  • California expertise highly desired.

An employee in this CA-based position can expect an hourly rate of $29.00-$38.00/hr for the Associate Archaeologist position.
